The beginning of this year there was the debate about whether schools should close because it was too cold and people ( mostly transplants) complained about schools closing. I personally believe it was ignorant debates that like that has kids stuck at school, people stuck on highways, more accidents then you can count and now its a state of emergency.

Here me out….. WE ARE NOT THE NORTH, THE MIDWEST or where ever you are from that is use to snow. This place sees snow like this maybe once every 3 to 5 years. Financially its not worth getting crazy amounts of snow and salt trucks. And for the ignorant people saying we don't have salt trucks please watch the news one thing we get all the time is ice. Its a normal occurrence we do have salt truck and items to help with this but you can't treat the roads if you get rush hour at 1:00 pm when the snow starts falling.
Let's look at this as a lesson for those that think its ridiculous. When we have snow ( on the rare occasions we do) Do like “most ” that have been here for generations … STAY HOME. Its not worth your job, life or safety. Will Atlanta ever get use to snow…. I have been through a ton of these storms Β ALL my life and the answer is NO. We just don't get it enough to become the norm. Its happened in 1982, happened in 1986, happened in 1993, happened in 2011, happened in 2014 and it will happen again.
WELCOME TO ATLANTA π

Hi,
I love your website π I agree with what you said, however, from growing up in Michigan and now living here.. things could have been prevented. Cobb County could have shut down schools – like most counties did. but they did what my county in Michigan did, wait until the last min. People should have not gone to work.. not only that, I do think Georgia should prepare for a ‘what if’ situation since snow does happen. not often but the entire state should not shut down, the way it did.. or the freeways and roads being blocked for hours. My hubby was on the road for 7 hours. My friend was on the road for 15 hours. He said at one point, he got out of his car, walked to a QT to use the restroom and get some food and water. I do hope Georgia has learned their lesson after this..
I hope everyone is safe. I have posted some pictures on my site from Day 1 and day 2 :

I hope you are okay and safe too π I am praying for everyone to stay safe as Georgia thaws out π
Hi,
Thanks. I am going to quote someone else that explain this perfectly when NY had Sandy they were down for a week. People in FL would laugh at that and be like really?/ But NY is not use to that weather.. same thing here its honestly rare that we get weather like this i have lived here off and on all my life. Places like Michagan its to be expected that you know how to do this. My problem is blaming the mayor for a ENTIRE metro area and not blaming Gov. deal. I worked for DOT only STATE employees can sand and salt those highways… AKA out of Reeds hand now did he have fault of course this was not cool in the highest but at some point he can be the fall guy and at some point we have to take personal accountability.
But hey just my two cents… back to saving money π
