I am a single mom and as a single mom I am a one woman army when it comes to taking care of my daughter and making sure things get done, paid on time and everything else. I want to share with you how I organize my life to make sure everything is taken care of in a timely matter. I am also going to so you some old school and electronic ways I stay organized.
Sometimes Old School works for me
So I know this is old but I put everything in a planner. I buy my planner every year and I also buy a pack of crayola markers. Everything has a color. My daughter activities has a color, my projects have color, my speaking engagements have a color, me and my daughter doctor appointments have a color. My daughter off days are outlined in a color. It looks colorful but I know what has to be done and the details of these are on the actual detail date pages. It works for me.
New School works even better for on the go and reminders
So this year my number of speaking engagements have picked up so I have to be especially careful in how not only what is going on in my personal life but what goes on in my business and my work. Because I do work outside of the home part time. So here are some of the things that I use to keep me organized and on track.
This is like seriously everything. Not only can I add stuff to my calendar but I can add stuff to my daughters calendar to remind her of something that is coming up. Not only that but it can be color coded like my planner and on top of that I can get an advance reminder which helps when I am working on projects for the blog.
OMG so something that I rarely let people know I am a BIG night owl. I try to go to bed no later than 11 during the week but on the weekend I get a ton of stuff done and I am up late. This is when I respond to emails and such. I type them up and have them set up for the Monday or if I am up during my normal work hours for this blog I and I am waiting for a answer I can have boomerang let me know I never got a reply. Seriously its awesome. I currently use the free version but once I need it I will be paying cause the service is amazing.
Canned Responses
If you don't know about this feature on Gmail. Seriously where have you been. Its not only keeps me organized but also keeps you from forgetting to respond to a email. I have set emails for all occassions so anytime that I am checking emails I am doing two clicks and my email is sent this even includes attachments. Talk about a time saver.
If you don't know about this I have to thank Regina for this tip. Wave accounting is my new buddy for this year. Its a free accounting system. Best thing about this is the app. I can take pictures of my business receipts and personal receipts into separate sections and organized OMG!!!! Talk about life saver.
