With the COVID-19 Virus I am bringing back some content for those in need. I hope that the next few updated post will help in some way. I am an essential worker so my check is not affected but my husband's check is so even in this household we are doing what we can to stretch every dollar.
Well it's happen you are fired or laid off what do you do? How do you support your family. Unfortunately I have dealt with this more than I care to mention since the economic downturn. There are some steps that you can take to make the lost in income alot less stressful than it has to be.
1.) File for unemployment ASAP. Alot of states make this easier by allowing you to apply online for unemployment and just going in to show your ID and sign a few forms. (With the Coronavirus Relief you are getting an additional $600 a week and this includes gig workers)

2.) Apply for food stamps. I know alot of people want to wait till they have no choice but remember food stamps are to help you get on your feet. The money you use on food could be going to pay bills. Again, alot of states allow you to do this online so you don't have to go in be ready to have your unemployment paperwork.
3.) Apply for medicaid for your family. Most states will at least cover your children making sure that they are covered in case they are sick or not feeling well. That could save you thousands if you can get covered even better.
4.) Take a good look at your bills and begin trying to make them smaller check out my post 5 Tips to Spring Clean your Budget to get you started.
5.)Try not to stress and continue looking. I know its easier said than done but the stress will only stress the rest of the family.
What other advice do you have for those that have been laid off or let go?
