Atlanta area schools are closed today due to the temp being too low. There was a big debate on Facebook by moms from up north complaining that we are closing schools for no reason and other moms that were like we should close the schools. So I wanted to make my opinion known, no I am not going to get nasty but I am going to give you an idea of where I am coming from and a little background on me. With a little ranting …. okay alot LOL.

If you didn't know I am an army brat I went to 23 schools from K – 12th. I lived up and down the east coast and overseas. I am born and raised (somewhat) in Georgia. So I understand living “UP NORTH” I lived in the DMV for 8 years all throughout my life so I know snow and I am not talking about just DC I am talking about Frederick, MD nothing but MOUNTAINS and I promise you half the folks “UP NORTH” have not seen snow till you lived in a valley of the Appalachian Mountains. Now that you know my history of dealing with snow and going to school because since I am from Atlanta most people would assume that I do not understand about going to school in snow. (Ever tried going to school in a snow storm in Germany??? Yeah didn't think so)

Now to my opinion even though it is hard to keep the kids after having them two weeks ( believe me I understand I am a mother too) I am glad that they closed the school. I am now unemployed and dealing with a health issue. My family thank God has helped me make sure my daughter has everything she needs to keep her warm. However, I live in a neighborhood that is pretty diverse but there're a ton of low-income families and not everyone can afford to get scarfs, coats, gloves to handle this type of cold, that they will need like what once every 10 years? While I understand that having a coat is needed in Georgia. Having a coat to withstand this type of weather would be a TOTAL waste of money to families that can't afford to waste ANY money.
Some of the moms where like take them to the bus stop in the car….. okay I don't have a car and I live in the back of my neighborhood so what's the solution to that?? Just because you have doesn't mean everyone has and I say thank you Fulton County for thinking about those that don't have the luxury of a car or the ability to get coats for our kids to withstand this type of cold. Then again who would want there kids in weather where a pan of water freezes in less than 30 mins??? IJS
At the end we all want whats best for our kids and that's the most important thing 🙂

A work outside the home, so I wished my job would have let me off so I could be at home with my children.
Great post. I think that you totally put some things into perspective.
