Being away from home is never easy Western Union decided to talk to people about home and one of the things that came up was culture and food. I myself know what its like to be away from home on the holidays growing up a army brat my traditions are a little different than where I am from.
One particular time of being away from home and alone was my first year of college. I was stuck at South Georgia College all the way down in Douglas, GA and no family near me so I had to stay at the dorms. Luckily the people that stayed decided to make Easter dinner. I was able to make some staples and they brought some of there's. It felt like home almost.
Now that I am mom I have come to make things that remind my daughter of home. I am a southern girl from Atlanta, GA so things that remind me of home are good old fashion soul food. Collards, Mac & Cheese,Dressing. Which is why I made these things on Christmas Day:

But the army brat in me comes out and we have a ton of different things to eat such as Jerk Chicken which my mom learned to cook from a friend in DC, taco salad that she learned to make in San Antoino, TX. My love of soup that I got from her carries on in my winter dishes. My pasta de fagoli is one of those examples.
Even though my mom is no longer here watching that video reminded me of time spent in the kitchen with my mom and how much love was put into every meal she made. Do you have a family food that reminds you of home? Watch this Western Union video you are sure to cry.
