Having a pet is not a frugal life believe me I am the owner of Sadie a two year old yorkie mix and I love her with everything but being frugal and adding another mouth to feed was so worth it. Check out what I have learned on saving money on pet food over the past year.
Over the past year I have found out that having a pet is much more like having another child than I ever thought. I have to take her to the doctor, make sure she gets her shots and of course feed, bathe, and dress her ( she is a doggie diva she has to have cute clothes right). Below are some of the ways that I save on pet food.
Use coupons
I personally save by using coupons this is one of the ways that I save on pet food. Most of the US coupons come from the Sunday paper. But you can also find great printable coupons.
Use rebates

Join Store Clubs
Store clubs are some of the ways people save money on pet foods. A lot of stores grocery stores and pet stores have digital coupons you can also earn freebies, special discounts and even special coupons based on what you buy from that store. I get a Kroger Store coupon for my Sadie's dog food every time an envelope comes out.
Subscribe for a monthly delivery
There are some amazing online stores that you can subscribe to your pets favorite food and this can also save you a ton of money and time so that you can save time with this. My favorite for this is Amazon. Click Here for Pet Food On Amazon
Social Media is your Friend
Social Media is a great place to find printable coupons for your pet supplies. If you have a particular brand that is your dogs must have follow them on Twitter, Facebook, go to their webpage and subscribe to their news letter so that when discounts or regional or nationwide sales come out you are one of the first to know.
Make your Own
A lot of people make their own pet food and pet treats. I am still learning this and a lot of these only require a few ingredients and don't cost a lot. I have pinned a ton of awesome recipes on my Pinterest board make sure you follow it (I add new pins all the time).
